Meet the Crew...

Rob showing the evening's oyster harvest. Otter Harbour, Cape Breton NS. August 2003

I'm Rob... I was introduced to sailing in 1970, when, having found the King's shilling in my school milk, was ‘volunteered’ by the school press-gang for an outdoor pursuits weekend. Starting in Torch dinghies on the River Blackwater, I moved up to Wayfarers and discovered the delights of ditch-crawling on this most creeky of rivers. A few flotilla holidays later, plans were hatched to spend a bit more time on the water. Or rather, all of the time.

My interests include scuba diving, travel, reading, philosophical debate (arguing), making and listening to music and trying to find the perfect chocolate ice cream. Professionally, my background is in mathematics and software engineering, but I always really wanted to be a tug-boat captain. I have a daughter, Robyn, whose ambition is to earn pots of money and send it to her father. Her interests include denying this.

After a good night's sail up the coast of Nova Scotia. July 2003

Hi, I am Louise, the other half of the team. My first experience of sailing was with the Ocean Youth Club in my early teens sailing from the south coast to France. Although I spent a fair time at the lee rail (some things never change!) I was hooked. Later, Llandegfed reservoir became a much frequented place where I sailed Enterprise, Torch and Laser dinghies, learned to windsurf and explored its murky depths scuba diving. Larks followed at Uni and then friends' cruisers and chartering.

My earliest ambition has been to set sail for far-off places. A General Practitioner in a previous life I now satisfy my vocational instincts applying preventative care to Puffin's diesel engine. As well as wanting to explore as much of the world as possible I enjoy scuba diving, hiking, cryptic crosswords and drinking coffee.
